One Merkel measures the length of my right arm from arm pit to fingertips, or about 31.4 inches. Approximately 500 rulers have been made and given away since spring 2009; as part of the 2009 Community Supported Artist Program, at my MFA thesis show, and at a show at Cerritos College. One Merkel Rulers have many functions, including as a straightedge, a way to keep the world at arm's length, or as a yardstick for art. Also, One Merkel is the appropriate viewing distance for most of the work I create.
