>> Community Supported Artist
about:
Community Supported Artist is an attempt to develop a sustained studio practice through the support of a community. Up to 100 shares (or 200 half shares) will be made, and they are available for sale, barter or trade. A half share is valued at $250 and a full share is $400.
By signing up, you receive a bookshelf-sized ceramic sculpture and/or a watercolor and ink drawing of an enlarged firebrick print. Examples of the work are in the pictures above. As an added bonus, anyone who signs up in 2009 will receive a FREE One Merkel Ruler, which measures the length of my right arm. For more information and to sign up, please download the 2009 contract in PDF form by clicking here.
Based on initial response, I do plan on continuing this project in 2010 and beyond.

Here's an excerpt from the contract:
WHAT IS IT?
Based on the community supported agriculture model where people purchase annual shares of a farm's harvest, this project allows you to purchase a share of my studio production and receive artwork in return. This art version of a CSA is intended to create a community of support for a local, high quality and varied studio practice. When you sign up, you will contribute to the development of a young artist who makes some things that can be sold and has other projects with no hope for turning a profit, such as Mammut Magazine. In that sense, this is a speculative model for sustaining an art practice.
WHAT ART WILL I RECEIVE?
One share is designed for a household and half-shares are available. A maximum of 100 shares will be produced each year and while the works will be a series, they will not be an edition.
For 2009, a full share consists of one of each of the following:
> Rebuilding the Wall: a 17"x30" blown-up version of a firebrick monoprint in black ink on archival watercolor paper. You choose the original print to be enlarged.
> Fundaments: a glazed ceramic piece suitable for tabletop or bookcase display.
ADDED BONUS!
Anyone who signs up for a 2009 CSA share or half-share will receive a free One Merkel ruler, which is the length of my right arm. This ruler indicates the proper distance for viewing my artworks and can also establish a good distance for arm-length self portraits.
